About Lid Vision
As keen bikers we enjoy nothing better than getting out on our bikes! We have always enjoyed all aspects of riding. From a quiet ride around the countryside on a fine day to the thrill of roaring down the motorway heading off on an adventure. However, what we didn’t enjoy was the uncomfortable confines of our helmets when wearing our glasses or sunglasses!
After visiting many bike shows and companies and numerous hours searching the web we still had no solution in finding a product that was comfortable and that didn’t distort or damage any sort of frame or sunglass we tried to squeeze under the helmet. It therefore became our mission to solve this problem. With our combined 25 years plus experience in the optical eyewear industry we knew we could invent something that would be biker friendly, practical, stylish and comfortable.
We started off knowing our design would need to replicate the wearing of a normal pair of glasses. This is important for vision correction, regardless of the type of correction required (long sighted, multi vision). It was also clear that other solution attempts had failed as they all started with the concept of modifying the helmet, which couldn’t be rolled out to address individuals vision needs’. So our solution had to allow a pair of glasses to sit on a rider’s face and sit correctly and comfortably on the bridge of the nose. This immediately caused issues – as no two faces are the same!
Eureka… vision is through the visor so the visor was our starting point.
So as with the start of any product we started experimenting with loads of tape, tubes, wires, broken frames, bits of plastic and wood. We worked on the principle that for comfort the product had to be front loaded given the majority of space is in the front of the helmet and rotation onto the face would be paramount.
We wanted our design to incorporate practicality by supplying a helmet on / helmet off solution. In other words we wanted the rider to use their helmet in the normal way lifting the visor whenever required and the frame stay in the same correct position on their face and also be able to wear the same frame day and night without wearing a helmet through the incorporation of interchangeable temples or plug in temples/sides.
Finally we needed to incorporate styling with technical innovation and create the only choice of eyewear for a biker. This was Michelle’s passion and she combined her knowledge of fashion and trends relating to the biking lifestyle. The style had to be on trend with both clean lines and bold statement pieces, allowing personality and identity for all riders. Allowing wrap style frames full optical glazing capabilities as well as giving added protection to the rider.
We worked on a number of drawings and we built a number of prototypes. We consulted two design companies to put our designs to the test and after numerous tweaks and changes our dream was realised and Lid Vision was born.
Our goal for Lid Vision was always to provide true corrective vision and sun protection but more importantly COMFORT!!!, as we all ride motorcycles for the enjoyment it brings. We found that we also achieved better safety. The riders have a clear visor with interchangeable sun and corrective optical fronts which allows for seamless day and night use. Gone are the days of getting caught out with a tinted visor at the start of a beautiful sunset and ending up with grit and bugs decorating your face riding home with the visor up!
We feel we have achieved a true cohesion between the biker and optical world giving comfort, practicality, technical advancement and styling and so becoming:
“The only eyewear brand for Bikers”
